Included in this text are a glossary and an extensive bibliography, as well as myriad updates to reflect the expanding use of epidemiologic methodology in clinical research. It seemed that this study fell into the scope of the policy of the faculty on client-related animal research as the study was performed under the authority of the integration (the owner of the veal calves) and therefore no approval was required. There is some debate in the literature on the question of whether epidemiologic research is exempt from IRB review.
